Youth Morning Circle

Each morning at 10 am, we will meet outside of the Youth building for Morning Circle (weather permitting) and get our minds, bodies and spirits ready for a great day! Parents/guardians are invited to attend and hear all about what the Youth will be doing that day. We will have visiting UU Ministers in attendance each day and look forward to starting the day with you.

Age Group Programming

The Youth will enjoy age-appropriate activities and games each morning, as well as other traditional camp activities and games. There will be off-campus trips for the 8s, 9s, and 10s, music, outdoor games, and arts & crafts for all ages, and tie-dye for the 4-10-year-olds. Please ensure that your child is on time each day, so they do not miss out on any fun. Programming runs from 9 am-noon and 2-4 pm. Please let your child’s age group leader know if your child will not be attending.

In the afternoons, the 6-10-year-olds will attend work- shops they have chosen during registration. Don’t forget to select your child’s Youth workshops during the registra- tion process, as some of them will fill up quickly! As for the younger children, they will return to their age group space, where many will participate in our most popular afternoon activity – naptime! For parents/guardians of younger ones that need to take a nap before 2 pm, there will be nap rooms available in the 2-3-year-old space. Parents are wel- come to use this space from noon-2 pm, where you can lay your child down and supervise them while napping until a Youth staff member arrives to relieve you.

6-10s Workshops & Tripscolors

Youth ages 6-10 will sign up during on-line registration for one afternoon workshop each day Monday through Thursday. Be sure to check the age range and requirements listed, as they do vary. Some trips may require certain equipment, or an early drop-off or late pick-up time, so please be sure to plan accordingly. The workshop options can be located here:

The 10s will enjoy a class trip this year to Dismal Falls on Friday morning. All 10 year olds will be automatically signed up for this trip. Should your child be unable to attend or should you have a conflict, please let your child's Age Group Leader know.

Youth workshops and trips are for Youth only. If you are interested in participating in a workshop or trip as a family, please look for the Family Friendly (FF) workshops offered by the Nature program.

Youth Check-in/Check-out

A parent/guardian must check in Youth each morning at 9:00am for programming. Please be sure to check with the age group leader to ensure your child has everything he/she will need for the day. At noon a parent, SUUSI guardian, responsible adult or sibling will need to check the child out for lunch and then check them back in at 2:00pm for afternoon programming. For dietary reasons, Youth Staff are not authorized to take children to meals. Children ages 0-1 may stay in the nursery through the lunch break.

Self-Checkout for Ages 9-10

There are new limitations regarding self-checkout for 9-10 year olds. With permission, children ages 9-10 may check themselves out at noon for lunch. They must go immediately to meet their parent/guardian and must be properly supervised at all times outside of programming hours. Self-checkout is a privilege that can be taken away, so please comply with the Youth rules. While authorized 9-10s are still allowed to check themselves out for lunch, they can no longer check themselves out at the end of afternoon programming. A parent, SUUSI guardian, responsible adult or sibling must check out all participating Youth each afternoon at 4:00pm.

Closing Circle

Friday afternoon we will have time for our age group evaluations and goodbyes, before attending and performing at our traditional Youth Closing Circle. The Closing Circle will take place outside of the Youth building (weather permitting) beginning at 3:30pm. Parents/guardians are invited and encouraged to attend!

Evenings at SUUSI are usually community oriented, and we look forward to seeing youth, parents, and other member of the SUUSI community playing, singing, and talking together at Community Time and other gatherings.

Meet the Youth Staff

Our Youth Staff has extensive experience working with children and includes teachers, religious educators, social workers and many are parents. We are all focused on ensuring the safety and fun of every participant. We encourage you to get to know our incredible Youth Staff members. Please take a moment to thank them for volunteering to work with your children for the week! If you have any questions, comments, or are interested in volunteering with Youth Staff, please contact the Youth Director.

serviceprojectWe’re excited to be doing a Service Project this year that will benefit the local domestic violence shelter. There will be a collection box at the Youth table at SUUSI Check-In, so be sure to stop by the Youth table to drop off your donation. We encourage you to teach your children about the importance of giving back to their community and the effect of generosity on others. The Youth Staff will deliver the collection box to the local domestic violence shelter during the week of SUUSI. Items accepted include unused: travel-size toiletries, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, deodorant, combs, brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, beauty products, feminine hygiene, baby shampoo, baby wash, baby lotion, diapers, and other baby supplies.

Family Co-Op

The Childcare Cooperative “Co-op” program provides participating parents/guardians with shared nighttime supervision of their children (ages 0-13) throughout the week of SUUSI. In years past, each parent/guardian contributed approximately 2 hours of supervision in the Co-op, depending on the number of adult participants. In return, parents/guardians are able to enjoy approximately 25 hours of free time to participate in SUUSI Nightlife programming, barring any emergency with their child.

ALL adults who stay in the Co-op dorm must participate in the shared supervision program. Parents/guardians wishing to participate in the Co-op should select Childcare Co-op housing when registering. Families who do not wish to participate in the Co-op should choose to stay in the non Co-op family housing when they register.

Adults staying in the Co-op who have SUUSI staff responsibilities between 9:30pm and 1:15am (or 2:15am on Friday) should notify the Co-op coordinator of potential conflicts, as soon as possible. To inform the coordinator of scheduling issues or if you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected].

babyhulahoopBe sure that your child's diaper bag contains everything that your child will need throughout the day: wipes, diapers, food, and any favorite toys for naps.

Nursery participants will engage in age appropriate play groups in our unique one to one caregiver situation. Since we hire one staffer for each baby, please let us know if your child will NOT be in the SUUSI nursery.
