Southeast Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute

I attended SUUSI last year at Radford University.  I LOVED IT!  I brought my ten children, their partners and my partner who i met through SUUSI the year before.  My ten sons were so excited to attend the latenight workshops and the completion of their Coming of Age programs.  They gained so many mental, spiritual, and physical connections between their peers.  I feel, as father of Jack, Starlight, Bing, Jacobo, Tabias, Sunchild, Samson, Zebulon, Bob, Tyrone, and Cletus.  I'm so happy that SUUSI has came into my life! I can't wait til next saturday! or PromNight :) GO SUUSI :)

I love SUUSI because we can be together as a family with less stress and more community than a traditional vacation. My favorite pasttime is hanging out at night with my husband and our SUUSI friends playing board games while our kids sleep safe in the childcare coop dorm. During the day, I get to take classes, read, hang out, or even nap while the kids are exhausted with tons of great SUUSI camp activities. All meals included means something for every picky eater. It really makes for a perfect family holiday.

I first came to SUUSI when I was 16. Now, 12 years later, I've only missed 2, and I don't plan on missing any more, ever, if I can help it! I've worked on a few differnt staffs, and I've found that I LOVE being a youth staffer! There are a several children I have become close to over the years and I always look forward to seeing how they've grown since the last SUUSI. I can't wait to bring my own children and raise them in such a wonderful intentional community!

Not your ordinary 'church camp'!

SUUSI has been a wonderful place to raise our daughters.  Both of them found their soul mates in this community.  That's not what we were looking for when they were 2 and 5, but it certainly was a great perk!  We look forward to bringing grandchildren one day.

SUUSI is a place where my heart sings (better than I can), and my soul dances (likewise).  It's a place where I feel deep love and acceptance from an amazing group of people who have become my extended family.

My words are inadequate.  If you've been to SUUSI, no explanation is needed.  If you haven't been to SUUSI, no explanation is possible.

I came to SUUSI in 1995 to see what all the excitement was about ... now I can't imagine summer without SUUSI. The music, nature program, worship services, BBqUUsi ... these are all the vehicles for the REAL reason I come to SUUSI: The People! Here we create the intentional multigenerational beloved community for one week that I want in my life 52 weeks a year. SUUSI inspires me to work to create that for myself and my world.

My husband and I bought our kids to SUUSI for ten summers while they were growing up. SUUSI allowed each of us to enjoy the special SUUSI community in our own way. My husband did every nature trip possible, including spelunking inside a cave, and enjoyed driving the Star Car. I grounded myself by singing in the SUUSI choir and I led a couple workshops.

We enjoyed the theme talks each morning and the worship services each evening. The SUUSI children's program and later, the teen program, were the highlights of our children's summers. Horray to all who make SUUSI possible! 

P.S. We look forward to returning to SUUSI once we retire and move back to the United States. Yay, SUUSI!

I an 14 years old and have been going to SUUSI for six years and cannot wait to return this year! The memories, connections, and friends I've made at SUUSI mean so much to me... the atmosphere of love, understanding, and community is like nowhere else I've been. After getting to know people at SUUSI, I feel like I've known them for years. SUUSI is a place where I can sing, dance, laugh, hug, cry, and always be myself. I LOVE SUUSI!

I first came to SUUSI in 2007 and cannot imagine a year without SUUSI! The music is AMAZINGLY wonderful, as are all the people and fascinating workshops.

In those other religions you have to wait until you die to go to heaven. UUs get to go the heaven every year - 3rd week July. And...it's all-you-can-eat!

Whata' Religion!

I'm not sure there's anything I or anyone else can say here that would help you truly understand how transformative this magical place can be. I'm afraid the only way to really comprehend why I can't imagine my life or the lives of my wife and children being as rich and full of joy without having discovered SUUSI over 19 years ago is to see for yourself. I hope to see you there this summer.
