Where to shop for handmade creations by SUUSI artists and artisans

Ballroom Hour

Sixty-ninety minutes of ballroom dancing Sunday-Friday evening with a mix of music all week.

BBQuusi

Very-late-night/very-early-morning social event with grilled options for vegetarians and meat-lovers. Check the catalog or NUUS for days/times.

Books & Bazaar

The SUUSI  Books & Bazaar (formerly known as the SUUSI Store) is a special place at SUUSI where you will find amazing books for all ages, copies of the incredible music you will be hearing throughout the week, and a wonderful array of fun items and SUUSI memorabilia such as T-shirts, lanyards, reusable water bottles & coffee mugs, bumper stickers, temporary hair color, and temporary tattoos.

Cabaret

Cabaret is the nightly opportunity to perform for SUUSI. Performers of all genres from belly dancing to singing to poetry reading, sign up for a slot to perform.

CACHE

Stands for "Clean Air Clear Heads Everyone." SUUSI's nightly 14-and-up, substance-free dance club.

Childcare Co-op

A SUUSI dorm for families who wish to share evening childcare. Adults are responsible for one two-hour shift of hallway duty during the week, and are otherwise free to go out. Children must stay in their rooms after curfew (9:30) unless they are with their own parent/guardian.

Common Ground

24-hour self-service coffee house, converation hotspot, and late-night music venue.

Concert Hour

Monday through Thursday evening, from 8:15 to 9:15, enjoy concerts featuring the music of professional artists who donate their time to SUUSI.

Core Staff

The Core Staff are department heads. They work year-round to make SUUSI magic.

HeaRT

Healthy Relations Team (HeaRT) is a volunteer group of both lay persons and ministry professionals trained in conflict resolution and reconciliation processes to engage conflicts that may arise, so that SUUSI may grow as a community of mutual care and responsibility. SUUSI Helpline - 540-534-1575 - is your one stop number for all your SUUSI questions during SUUSI. 

Dial 1 for Helpline, 2 for Star Car and 3 for Pastoral Care or HeaRT.

Please note that the Helpline is only active between 7am and 11 pm. Star Car and Pastoral Care are available 24/7

Jamboree

On the last night of SUUSI, perfomers are encouraged to get together with someone they have never performed with before and take the stage at Cabaret. This evening is called the Friday Night Jamboree. It is organized by the folks who do Caberet.

Late Night Song Circle

Late night opportunity to play or listen to music with your fellow nightowls! Starts after midnight.

Median

A Median is a person who is over 21 years old and enjoys a late night lifestyle.

Middler

A Middler is an 11-13 year old person attending SUUSI.

NUUBI

A NUUBI is a person attending SUUSI for the very first time.

Radford University

Radford University (RU) returned as SUUSI's home in 2024. RU is located in Radford, Virginia.

Serendipity

SUUSI's nightly 21-and-over dance club. Also sometimes called "The Dip".

SOLIS

SOLIS is the online registration system for SUUSI. It was developed by SUUSI volunteers and is the digital foundation of SUUSI.

Star Car

Golf cart transportation for people with physical challenges. Call the Helpline 540-534-1575 and press 2 to request a Star Car. Cars are available between 7am and 11pm and sometimes even later depending on demand and volunteer availability. Advanced reservatins strongly encouraged.

SUUSI

SUUSI stands for Southeast Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute. While not all participants identify as Unitarian Universalists, we are strongly rooted in the UU faith.

SUUSIships

SUUSIships are SUUSI’s scholarships awarded to attendees by the SUUSI Foundation. To apply, when registering via SOLIS, in the payment section, indicate you are applying for a SUUSIship, and you will receive a link to complete an application.
