Update on SUUSI's Mask Policy

Our community is committed to honor and care for each other, especially the most vulnerable among us - our elders, our babies, and our ill or immunocompromised members. Requiring vaccines and rapid tests is an essential way to provide this care, but with the rise of infectiousness of the current dominant Covid strains, we recognize that this may not be enough. SUUSI will require masks in many indoor spaces this year.

Specifically, we will require masks in:

  • Worship
  • Concert Hour
  • TWOB
  • Cabaret
  • Nature vans
  • Indoor Youth programming
  • Serendipity and CACHE when not eating or drinking
  • The dining hall before and after sitting down to eat.

Serendipity, which will be held at Hillside Grind, will have fans and all doors open to improve airflow, as well as an outdoor dancing space for those who wish to dance unmasked. Worship, Concert Hour, TWOB, and Cabaret will have sections marked for socially distanced seating.

N95, KN95, or KF94 masks are strongly recommended, although well fitting surgical masks will also be permitted. SUUSI is not allowing the use of cloth masks as research has shown they are not very effective at stopping transmission of the current dominant Covid strains. Extra masks provided by SUUSI will be available at check in and at the info office for those who need them!

We recognize that people in our community may have varying tolerances for wearing a mask for long periods of time. If you struggle with masks, you may want to bring an ethernet cable so you can stream worship and concerts from your room, and a couple of lawn chairs so that you can spend more social time outside. You may plan to make use of the university's takeout meal options so that you can spend less time masked in the dining hall. We are continuing to explore options that allow for people with different risk tolerances to create a SUUSI experience that best meets their needs. Stay tuned for more details!
